Black tendrils reach up Toward an unseen sun The long hooked arms Of immortal beasts Fight against currents Boiling alive, agony Wander in darkness Flee across canyons The great abyss Black tendrils reach up Toward an unseen sun The long hooked arms Of immortal beasts Why have you come To this purgatory Of deathless eyes What madness drives you Ever farther down Welcome to the deep Has the world above Finally become more vile Than the monsters down here Things you once feared Black tendrils reach up Toward an unseen sun The long hooked arms Of immortals A great sinking eye Whose gaze scalds our flesh Oppressive light shines We cannot hide

Feed on a billion bodies Behold the destiny of man Their world of chaos finally at peace Is this how it had to end? With every building burned And all their cities turned to ash The scent of putrefaction fills the air They only did this to themselves But if you stood by as they died Then you are a failure on high Those who were created in your image are no more The mighty one ignored their cries as evil took its course Now those who died in agony, the virgin and the whore Forever burn, abandoned by a god without remorse Sink in a ruined ocean Its deep the last stronghold of life Climb the highest mountain and behold a desert Vast and empty as the sands of time If this is what remains of all our legacies Then all our victories have truly been in vain Undone in the blink of an eye But if you stood by as they died Then you are a failure on high Those who were created in your image are no more The mighty one ignored their cries as evil took its course Now those who died in agony, the virgin and the whore Forever burn, abandoned by a god without remorse But if you stood by as they died Then you are a failure on high Those who were created in your image are no more The mighty one ignored their cries as evil took its course Now those who died in agony, the virgin and the whore Forever burn, abandoned by a god without remorse

Deep withinyour body Beneath thin, pallid skin Lie glassy sacs of unborn wrath The seeds you've sown arise And now begin to quiver Gnawing ever toward the air Colorless eyes peering out Uncoil and seek a new host On festering thoughts they nurse On disgorging words they feed Like vermin they breed and grow Sequestered, stronger by the day Blind and deaf, they fill your throat Bursting forth to spread their seed Colorless eyes peering out Uncoil and seek a new host Afflicted with your weakness Unleashed upon the world But never gone for good They'll be back to feed again Colorless eyes peering out Uncoil to seek a new body And seek a new host

It's been years since you've seen the light And now that you're never going back Creatures of darkess begin to rise With eyes aglow and bodies black Shapeless, weightless, the sea itself Watches you relinquish the light To rest forever in the plains of the deep At peace in eternal night Become one with these worms Let black water fill your lungs Come home In blinding clouds of spawn they writhe Grey matter swirls and suffocates Bodies twisting together in grotesque form Abominations that stain the sea Eggs drift away in viscera gyres A desperate sacrifice of unborn lives Ancestors consumed by their progeny Chewed into sand and forgotten Become one with these worms Let black water fill your lungs Come home Become one with these worms Let black water fill your lungs They won't remember you above And no sad songs will be sung Come home

This abyss is a graveyard Fragments, fading memories Those we left behind A place for broken souls Endlessly I'm searching Signs that you're still here Cling to fading hope Is this what I want to find? Even through endless years This longing never dies Follow a distant voice And here she lies Here in my fevered dreams What horrors meet the eyes Only the darkness knows But here she lies Into jaws of valleys Pale spectres following Realm of lightless eons Giants tower over us In this chasm I can Hear you calling out to me But my eyes see nothing And my heart is growing cold Even through endless years This longing never dies Follow a distant voice And here she lies Here in my fevered dreams What horrors meet the eyes Only the darkness knows But here she lies Here she lies

Sitting up there in your high chair Choosing money over life It’s a business, so you tell me Twisting yet another knife I don’t care that your career path Says make cash and fuck the land You should care that you had all our Futures in your greedy hands All the world’s a stage for Your comeuppance day It’s too late for apologies And now that everyone is watching It’s time to start the show Endless teeth are waiting for you Just a push and down you go Slip beneath the water’s surface You’re a feast for lampreys It’s time to reap what you sow This has been a long time coming All those years you raped the sea Now it’s time to learn a lesson They feared you now you'll fear me Palpitation, suffocation Last things that you’ll ever feel Mastication, termination Torn apart by savage eels All the world’s a stage for Your comeuppance day No one will answer your pleas And now that everyone is watching It’s time to start the show Endless teeth are waiting for you Just a push and down you go Slip beneath the water’s surface You’re a feast for lampreys It’s time to reap what you sow Retribution, our solution Even if it is in vain Denigration, reparation We take pleasure in your pain And now that everyone is here Flesh will tear and blood will flow Now that everyone is watching It’s time to start the show Endless teeth are waiting for you Just a push and down you go Slip beneath the water’s surface You’re a feast for lampreys It’s time to reap It’s time to feast It’s time to reap what you sow

For epochs we have lain Upon this ocean throne An altar to the gods Growing in our lethargy Feeding on those below Immortal seven seas But all our victories Are lost upon the tide Revel not at Leviathan Look closer and see Harpoons that pierce his ancient flesh And though he strains Against the ceaseless reel He too will lie with the crabs eventually Yet now our golden age Is reaching its demise The setting of the sun It will be you who finally Drags us back to the deep To face the nightmare No mournful serenade For those about to die Revel not at Leviathan Look closer and see Harpoons that pierce his ancient flesh And though he strains Against the ceaseless reel He too will lie with the crabs eventually For now a storm arrives To wash the light away Revel not at Leviathan Look closer and see Harpoons that pierce his ancient flesh And though he strains Against the ceaseless reel He too will lie with the crabs He'll lie One last breath for Leviathan Torn asunder, he A bitter end in human killing fields Gaze upon his fading majesty As he falls to lie with the crabs In the grave of the sea The sea In the grave of the sea

[Written by Aaron John Gregory of Giant Squid]

about

From the primordial ooze rises the debut album of Boston’s A Feast for Lampreys – a briny musical carcass fed upon by black metal, death metal, sludge, and blues. This nightmarish concoction from songwriter Nymphon tells the story of a dying planet through the eyes of its last desperate aquatic inhabitants, framed by the agony of personal loss.

Five years in the making, Graveyard Abyss defies convention and categorization with its selachian musical lens. Journey through sludgy canyons where corroded guitars battle drowned church organs for melodic supremacy, and feral rasps prey upon ghostly voices in the grave of the sea.

A Feast for Lampreys was created in 2017 in protest of the ongoing and willful destruction of oceans for short-term profit. The album was considered lost for years until it was painstakingly resurrected and completed under the eye of producer Mike Lamb (Sojourner, Light Field Reverie).
